Coalition for a Better Memphis Elects New Executive Committee

Memphis TN, June 22, 2006

The Coalition for a Better Memphis, a non-profit, non-partisan voter advocacy group, today announced it has welcomed Roby S. Williams and Bobbi Gillis as executive committee co-chairs for the August 2006 Shelby County election campaign. Roby S. Williams is president of Black Business Association and Bobbi Gillis is executive vice president of FaxonGillis Homes.

The newly elected executive committee will be responsible for the upcoming August 2006 election which is one of the largest ballots in Shelby County history.

Also elected for the executive committee this term:

  • Past Chairs - Dean Deyo, chairman, Leadership Academy and Calvin
    Anderson, vice president, Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Candidate Evaluation Committee Chair - Happy Jones, Memphis Area
    Women's Council

  • Events Committee Chair - Michael Mullis, partner, Farnsworth
    Investments

  • Finance and Membership Committee Chair - Cato Johnson, senior vice
    president, Methodist Healthcare

  • Legal Counsel - Bert Wolf, Husch and Eppenberger, and Desi
    Franklin*, Baker, Donelson Law Firm

Coalition for a Better Memphis rated Shelby County Commission candidates for the recent May Primary elections and distributed over 200,000 copies of a Voter Guide for the election. The Coalition is planning a similar guide for the upcoming August General election.

* Desi Franklin resigned from the Coalition for a Better Memphis Executive Committee when she filed to run for Memphis City Council in 2007. Valerie Johnson (Baker, Donelson Law Firm) replaced her on the Executive Committee in the Legal Counsel capacity.
